c. 1916 Pullman Touring

This Pullman Touring (serial #T5003) was built by the Pullman Motor Car Company of York, Pennsylvania. The company was initially created as the York Motor Car Company in 1905 by Albert P. Broomell and Samuel E. Baily, with the help of mechanic, James A. Kline. After about four years of ups and downs, the company was reorganized with new financial backers as the Pullman Motor Car Company in 1909. In 1910, a Pullman won Philadelphia’s then well-known Fairmont Park Road Race. In 1911, a Pullman received three gold medals at the Russian Exposition. On the heals of these successes, the Pullman Company began producing a larger number of cars, apparently sacrificing quality in the process. Sales dropped, and an attempt to rescue the company through reorganization failed. In December, 1916, the Pullman Motor Car Company declared bankruptcy. The last Pullman cars rolled off the assembly line in 1917, a year after Stuhr’s touring car. From 1905 to 1917, the company produced about 15,000 cars.
